A compilation album (LP/CD) is one featuring many performers, each performing one or perhaps two songs. Compilation (or "Various Artists") CD's are extremely common in reggae music. They provide an excellent way of introducing the listener to a performer that they might never have heard before and feel encouraged to go listen to a CD of that particular performer. Therefore, the listener is encouraged to explore the work of a performer that they would not otherwise have heard; and the performer receives exposure that he/she might otherwise never have received.
Sadly, in many record stores, the only Hortense Ellis you are likely to find is on a compilation. There are scores of compilations that include a song or two from Hortense and a selection of these is listed below. At this point, I list only the Hortense tracks as opposed to a full track listing because my priority for now is to get this site up and running, with fine tuning coming later. Unlike many music sites which are put on line and then left untouched, this site will always be having additional information added. There is so much information about each record - whether 45 or LP/CD - that I want to include so as to provide a full picture of Hortense's musical achievements. Much of this information will come gradually with time and therefore if you are a genuine admirer of Hortense's work, it is well worth your while to keep coming back.
